This workshop covers the fundamentals of bonsai repotting, an essential skill for maintaining the long-term health, development and appearance of your trees. Working on your own bonsai with guidance from Shawn, you’ll learn how to approach the repotting process with confidence and understand the decisions that need to be made before, during and after a tree is repotted. Throughout the session, we’ll cover: - The correct timing for repotting different species - Understanding the root system and how much root can safely be removed - Repotting techniques for trees at different stages of development - Soil selection and establishing a healthy growing environment - Repotting with aesthetics and future development in mind - Choosing and pairing a bonsai with the right pot - Positioning and securing your tree within the pot - Aftercare and how to manage your tree following a repot The aim is to develop an understanding of not only how to repot a bonsai, but when and why it should be done, allowing you to make better decisions for the long-term health and development of your trees. Bring along up to two trees you would like to repot during the session. Alternatively, you’re welcome to observe Shawn’s demonstrations and the repotting work carried out by other participants. This 3-hour workshop is suitable for all skill levels. What to bring Bonsai tools, if you have them. Basic tools will be provided if required. Up to two trees to work on during the workshop.
