Late Spring Pruning Workshop

Learn the fundamentals of pruning bonsai.

65 Australian dollars
Mooroolbark, Victoria

Description

This workshop covers the fundamentals of bonsai pruning, primarily late-spring, exploring both how and why we prune, the timing behind different techniques, and how our approach can vary between species. Working on your own trees with guidance from Shawn, you’ll learn how to prune with both the design and health of the tree in mind. We’ll look at creating and maintaining branch and foliage structures, opening dense areas to improve light and airflow, managing clustered growth, and making decisions around which branches to keep, shorten or remove. We’ll also explore how the timing and severity of pruning influences the energy and growth of a tree, helping you understand not only what to cut, but why and when to cut it. The aim is to build the confidence to make better pruning decisions across your own bonsai collection. Bring along up to two trees you would like to work on during the session. If you don’t have suitable material, trees from the Ukiyo collection can be provided for you to practise your techniques on. This 3-hour workshop is suitable for all skill levels. What to bring: - Bonsai tools, if you have them. Basic tools will be provided if required. - Up to two trees to work on during the workshop. Max 4 participants. *Payment via PayPal or on the day with cash or bank transfer
