Service Description

In this session, we go through the basics of how and why we prune bonsai, covering many different species, while honing in on the specific species you bring to the workshop. Work on your own tree with guidance from Shawn during this workshop, while learning how to prune your trees to create an aesthetically pleasing design, and how to clean out foliage to open up the branch and pad structures to allow light and airflow through, and how to make decisions on clustered areas of growth to allow for the best possible structure and health for the plant. Start to make decisions about branches to keep and branches to cut off and the timing involved in these techniques, and how it interacts with the energy of the plant so sustain strong, healthy growth across the whole tree. Bring along any material you have that you wish to prune during this workshop, otherwise we can supply you with material from the Ukiyo collection to practice your technique on.
