This workshop covers the fundamentals of bonsai wiring, one of the most important techniques used to develop the structure, movement and overall design of a tree. Working on your own trees with guidance from Shawn, you’ll learn how to apply wire correctly and confidently, with a focus on achieving the desired result while protecting the health of the tree. Throughout the session, we’ll cover: - Correctly anchoring your wire - Applying wire cleanly and effectively - Selecting the right wire gauge for different branches and trunks - Positioning branches and creating movement - The use of guy-wires and alternative techniques - When to apply wire, how long to leave it on, and when it should be removed We’ll also cover a range of practical tips and techniques to help improve the quality and efficiency of your wiring. The aim is to develop an understanding of not only how to wire a bonsai, but how to use wiring to create better structure and design. Bring along up to two trees you would like to work on during the session. If you don’t have suitable material, trees from the Ukiyo collection can be provided for you to practise your techniques on. This 3-hour workshop is suitable for all skill levels. What to bring: - Bonsai tools, if you have them. Basic tools will be provided if required. - Up to two trees to work on during the workshop.
